Glossary of Terms (for transfer students)

Articulation Agreement - An official document outlining course to course equivalencies from a community college program to an academic program at UB.

Complete Application Packet - For undergraduate students, this includes an application (online or paper), appropriate application fee, Maryland Residency Form, and official transcripts from all previously attended college level institutions.

Cross Cumulative Grade Point Average - The combined grade point average from all accredited higher education institutions attended.

Dual Admission - The ability for a student to be admitted to two schools at once. In the case of the University of Baltimore, it applys to either a community college and UB, or a dual program at the graduate level.

Elective Courses - Academic coursework that is used to satisfy open electives in a degree program, that do not include those courses specifically designated as general education or for the academic program.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - A document, administered by the US Government, which determines how much need-based financial aid a student is eligible to receive. This document must be submitted to qualify for any scholarships at the University.

General Education - A block of courses, required by state law, that all students receiving an undergraduate college level degree from a public institution in Maryland must complete.

Lower Level Elective - 100 and 200 level courses that do not satisfy any requirements for the academic major, general education, or graduation.

Major Courses - Courses used to satisfy specific requirements within the content of a specific academic major.

Major Electives - Coursework used to satisify open electives within the content of a specific academic major.

Official Transcript - A sealed or unopened transcript that is received from a transfer institution and contains the seal or signature of the registrar.

Transfer Evaluation - A document produced by the University that provides detailed information about how previously taken courses will be accepted by the University of Baltimore.

Unofficial Transcript - A copy of a transcript which is produced without the offical seal or signature of a registrar.
