Diana Oblinger presents "Educating the Net Generation"

The Net Generation of students are those born in the 1980s and later. They are so named because they have been surrounded by technology throughout their growth and development. Students of the net generation are connected, they are tech-savvy, and they prefer interaction and being engaged. They learn and collaborate differently than their predecessors. Net gen students present different challenges to educators.

Diane Oblinger spoke to meeting the challenges of educating net generation students in a videoconference delivered at University of Baltimore on February 7, 2007.  Dr. Oblinger's presentation, "Educating the Net Generation," is presented along with related resources.

Dr. Oblinger, Vice President for EDUCAUSE, is the director of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative and is responsible for teaching and learning activities for EDUCAUSE. Previously, Dr. Oblinger served as the Vice President for Information Resources and the CIO for the University of North Carolina system. She is known for her leadership in teaching and learning with technology and serves on a variety of boards, including the National Science Foundation's Directorate of Education and Human Resources.
