Dual Degree Juris Doctor/Master of Science in Criminal Justice

This 112-credit combined program offers students the opportunity to obtain the J.D. and M.S. in criminal justice by completing courses over a three- to four-year period.

Students take 15 fewer credits than would be required were the two degrees obtained independently.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for the combined program must meet the admissions standards for both the J.D. and M.S. programs.

Law School

To apply, download UB's law application (131k pdf) or fill out the online law application. In addition, the following are required:

  • the non-refundable application fee
  • Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) scores
  • registeration for the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) transcript evaluation and letter of recommendation services
  • a personal statement
  • two letters of recommendation (submitted through LSDAS)
  • resume

M.S. in Criminal Justice

Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree with a minimum 2.8 grade point average, including successful completion of undergraduate courses in statistics and criminological theory. Those who do not meet the criteria for admission as degree candidates may be admitted on a conditional basis.

  • the non-refundable application fee
  • two official transcripts from each institution you've attended
  • a personal interview with the program director
  • two letters of recommendation, preferably from a former professor and an employer

Degree Requirements

Students will be required to complete 85 credits in law school and 27-30 credits in the M.S. program.

Students do not take courses for the M.S. program during the fall and spring semesters of their first year of law school.
