Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:
Q: How can I park in disability parking spaces on campus? Do you issue disability hangtags?A: The University does not issue disability parking hangtags to community members with disabilities. When you register for your parking account, through which you can obtain your parking access card, you must indicate that you need disability parking.
Once your registration is submitted, you will receive a confirmation e-mail indicating your parking access card is available for pick up in the parking office in the white townhouse, 1104 Maryland Ave., adjacent to the Maryland Avenue Garage. If getting to the office presents difficulties for you, please contact the parking office at parking@ubalt.edu or 410.837.6573, and we can make accommodations, as necessary.
When picking up your access card, bring your MVA placard and state-issued disabled certificate for verification. Your access card will be programmed to allow you to park in the disability spaces on the North Charles Street Lot as well as those in the Maryland Avenue Garage. You must display either your MVA placard or license plate in order to use a disabled parking space in any UB parking area or in the designated disabled parking spaces along Mount Royal Avenue.
Q: Are the free UB shuttles that circulate campus wheelchair accessible?
A: Yes, the two UB shuttles that run among the parking facilities and academic buildings are both wheelchair accessible; the estimated maximum wait time for a shuttle is 20 minutes.
Please note that for safety reasons, the shuttle buses cannot go into the parking areas.
Q: Is there street parking for people with disabilities?
A: Yes, disability street parking—maintained by the city—is available on the north side of Mount Royal Avenue near Gordon Plaza and on the south side of Mount Royal Avenue near the William H. Thumel Sr. Business Center.
This parking is accessible to any vehicle with current state disabled registration or placards, allowing the University to provide disability parking to campus visitors.
Q: How does the University enforce the use of disability parking spots only by people with disabilities?
A: Parking in any University-controlled disability space requires current state disabled registration or placards. The Department of Public Safety vigorously enforces use of these spaces, per requirements set forth by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
Q: I need to park a van on campus. Where can I park it?
A: We currently have van-accessible parking in the Maryland Avenue Garage (lower level, along the Biddle Street side) and the North Charles Street Lot.
Q: If I park on the street and don't use my parking access card for the North Charles Street Lot or Maryland Avenue Garage, can I receive a refund of the balance that remains on the card?
A: If you graduate or withdraw from UB, you can request a refund via an online form on the PMI Web site; otherwise, funds carry over from one academic semester to the next.
For more information about parking, contact UB's parking office at 410.837.6573 or parking@ubalt.edu.
