Changing your Address with the USCIS

Changing your Address with the USCIS

University of Baltimore Students and Dependents in Non-immigrant Status

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations require individuals in certain nonimmigrant statuses, including J-1  exchange visitors and F-1 students and their dependents, to report their change of address within 10 days of such change. Dependents are expected to complete the same notification requirements, independently from their spouse or parent status holder.

Students and dependents in F status are required to notify the International Services Office immediately upon changing their local living address. The ISO will then enter the student’s and dependent’s address change into the USCIS database called SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System). F and J status holders are only required to notify their I-20 school of their change of address. No direct notification to USCIS is required.  Those in nonimmigrant visa status other than J and F must report any change in local living address directly to the USCIS.

Change of Address Form

Download the change of address form (Form AR-11) from the USCIS web site. Individuals who are subject to NSEERS requirements in nonimmigrant statuses other than F or J must file a different form, Form AR-11SR.

  1. Please read the instructions carefully and complete the form in English.
  2. A number:
    • If you have an EAD Card for OPT or another USCIS employment document, look for your A number on that document. Write that number and also your I-94 number, with “I-94# :”
    • If you don't have an A number, write your I-94 number with “I-94 #:”
    • Your I-94 number can be found on your I-94 white card and on your UB I-20 in the space marked “Admission Number.”
  3. The final box in bottom right asks for the date your status expires. F-1 and F-2 individuals are not usually given date-certain status end dates, but rather “Duration of Status” or “D/S.” If D/S has been written on your I-94 entry card, write D/S in this box. If a date has been hand-written on your most current I-94 card for individuals in other statuses, write that date in this box.
  4. The International Services Office strongly recommends that students maintain a copy of the AR-11 and mail the form to the USCIS by “Return Receipt Requested” mail. Keep the copy and the Return Receipt in your records as evidence of your compliance with this regulation.

If you have any further questions, call or email the International Services Office staff.
