Web Space for Students, Faculty, & Staff

Each UB faculty, student, and staff NetID account provides file space on a Web server for personal use. All accounts are allocated 100 MB of personal Web site space.

Getting Started

  • Your NetID Account: You need to know your NetID username and password to access your Web space. This is the same login information used for UB e-mail, the MyUB Portal. If you do not know it, you can look up your username and reset your password at mypw.ubalt.edu, or contact the OTS Call Center.
  • File Transfer Software: You will need some way to upload and download files between the Web server and the computer you are using. You can use a variety of methods outlined below; OTS recommends using CoreFTP on Windows. This is free software. For more information, see the Core FTP section below.
  • Web Authoring Software: You will determine the software you use to write your Web pages. You may write them in a text editor such as NotePad or other software such as Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Core FTP Software for Windows

Core FTP is installed on OTS-supported computers in the computer labs and on office computers. If you want to use Core FTP on your personal computer, you will download, install, and configure it.

DOWNLOAD CORE FTP
Click here or visit www.coreftp.com to download Core FTP for Windows. When prompted, click Save. Once the file has been saved to your computer open it up to install.

INSTALLATION AND USING CORE FTP
For instructions on setting up and using Core FTP client, please click here. Note: When connecting to home.ubalt.edu with an FTP client, type "CIS\" before your user ID.

Additional Access Options

  • An H Drive is available when you are logged on a UB computer. The H: drive will take you directly into your web folder. You can post all web documents directly there, without using Core FTP.
  • Your H drive is also available when you access the MyUB Portal. After you log on the portal, click the MyFiles icon in the Tools box.
  • You can use the FTP client of your choice. The site information you will need is:
    • Host name: home.ubalt.edu
    • Username: cis\NetID (where NetID is your username)
    • Remote folder location is based on your primary affiliation with UB.

      Students enter: /students/NetID
      Faculty/Staff enter: /staff/NetID

If you  need assistance with connecting to your Web space, please contact the OTS Call Center. OTS does not provide HTML/Web authoring assistance.
