The ability to train and support employers with developing internship positions is highly desired.
The Internship and Recruitment Coordinator supports the CPDC’s mission of creating expert career managers and facilitating synergy with the employment community by providing direct services to students seeking to gain experience through internships. This position also coordinates the student employment services offered by the CPDC for on-campus opportunities and provides direct supervision to students participating in the Job Location and Development program. Lastly, duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with employer services and outreach, facilitating career development workshops and classroom presentations, and assisting with career programming and event planning.
The ideal candidate should possess some knowledge of career services, employer relations, and experiential education. Experience in higher education, event planning, and relationship building is necessary. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to successfully partner with external constituents and faculty. The ideal candidate will possess superb oral and written communication skills, exceptional customer service skills, and possess strong organizational skills (attention to detail).
Internship Coaching/Case-Management: Provides direct services to students seeking internships including career coaching and case-management; Identifies and conducts outreach to potential employers and organizations to engage recruitment of UB students as interns; Collaborates with Industry Career Specialists on helping students gain experience and build employability skills; Actively seeks to partner with faculty and academic advisors to provide programs, training, and career interventions in support of students seeking internships; Collects internship data and writes internship related reports; Serves as subject matter expert to campus community on internship best-practices.
Student Employment: Serves as point-of-contact for CPDC on-campus employer services regarding work-study postings, Graduate Assistantships, and student assistant postings. Coordinates part-time/on-campus job fair and stays connected with campus hiring managers to provide consistency in hiring timelines and practices; Coordinates campus-wide training for student employees and oversees the badging program; Employs methods to recognize and celebrate students holding positions on campus.
Job Location and Development/Supervision: Coordinates the part-time off-campus employment program (JLD) for federal work-study students. Recruits nonprofit organizations as JLD sites and helps place work-study students. Maintains records on JLD employers and students working under the program. Provides supervision to JLD participants including timesheets processing and develops training opportunities to help prepare students for sites.
Recruitment Support: Assists with cultivating and maintaining relationships with the employment community to support strategic Employer Relations outreach; Coordinates recruitment events including job fairs and networking events; Encourages employers to participate in recruitment activities including job fairs and directs all employers with job opportunities to post to UBworks; Performs concierge services to employers seeking to gain visibility at UB; Utilizes career management system (CMS) to approve and input job announcements, and send out messages to students. Summarizes database information annually for departmental and federal reporting.
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Communications, Business or a related field
• 2 years of experience in career services or advising in higher education
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with students, administrators, faculty, staff and employers
• Knowledge and understanding of student affairs and university operations, principles and functions
• Experience in working with diverse student populations including undergraduate, graduate and law students
• Experience in working in highly collaborative environments and demonstrated ability to work in a team giving and receiving feedback
• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Familiarity with designing learning outcomes and evaluations
• Proficiency with office software career management systems and equipment
• Ability to work a flexible schedule include some evening and weekend hours
• Ability to build and maintain relationships
Preferred Education and Experience
• Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Communications, Business or related field
• Experience with employer relations and recruitment services
• Experience with experiential learning
• Experience with administrative and academic personnel
• Experience with Symplicity software
• Experience in event planning and promotion
• Experience working directly with students
