The Major Gifts Officer serves as a front-line fundraiser with responsibilities for establishing and managing effective relationships with varied donor prospects and existing annual and major donors. The role has a primary focus on identifying and cultivating new major gift prospects and designing and implementing successful cultivation and solicitations strategies with a focus on major gifts of $10,000+. Responsible for the delivery of increased and new revenue from a pipeline of major gift prospects on an annual basis. Monitors all prospect contact to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations. 75% of time focuses on securing and making donor visits. Local and national travel is essential. The Major Gifts Officer must be a self-motivated professional with a commitment to the University of Baltimore’s mission, a track record of advancing relationships, and broad knowledge of development principles.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
Secure visits with major gifts prospects by managing a portfolio of approximately 175-200 donor prospects. Responsible, under the guidance of the senior-level Major Gifts Officer, for creating and executing results-oriented fundraising strategies for assigned portfolio to efficiently manage major gift prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Monitor progress toward portfolio goals, including annual revenue and visit goals. Establish and effectively manage relationships with donors and prospects through referrals and/or virtual/in-person meetings.
Work collaboratively and strategically with colleagues in the Office of Advancement and External Relations (especially Alumni Relations, Donor Relations and Prospect
Research/Management), alumni constituents, UBalt volunteers and university representatives
Regularly record and track progress through the Raiser’s Edge database. Administrative and other related duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Baccalaureate degree
Required Experience:
Minimum of two years' experience in a fundraising position with proven track record of success, preferably in higher education.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand the needs and interests of major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the university. Must demonstrate the aptitude to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner. Ability to thrive in a metric and data driven environment.
Must possess a proven fund-raising track record, including an ability to make fruitful engagement calls/visits. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and a record of completing assignments on time and accurately. Must possess excellent oral, strong written and exceptional interpersonal skills. The successful candidate demonstrates initiative and perseverance, a sense of humor, a friendly, positive, and collaborative approach, and a strong team-oriented style. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and comfortable navigating a donor database, preferably Raiser's Edge. Excellent judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information required. Must be willing to attend occasional evening and weekend events and activities. Local, regional and national travel required.
