The Executive Director of the Center for International and Comparative Law (CICL) will oversee the day-to-day financial and project management operations of the Center and will report directly to the Faculty Directors of the CICL and the Associate Dean for Administration. The Executive Director will work closely with the CICL Faculty Directors as a key member of the Center's leadership team helping to set the CICL strategic plan, mission and projects/priorities. The Executive Director will plan and implement CICL international academic, grant-funded, publication, and research programs and initiatives. Key duties will include the strategic development and management of the Law School’s international and comparative law programs and initiatives; grant development and management; organization and implementation of Center events including conferences, lectures, and symposia; management and support of Center-related publications (including the American Journal of Comparative Law and the International Encyclopedia of Comparative Law); fostering and facilitating student opportunities, programs and engagement, such as study abroad programs, transnational courses, travel programs, and international moot court competitions; nurturing existing and building new international partnerships; participation in the hiring and supervision of CICL staff; and promoting the Center’s public profile, including through alumni relations and CICL website efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
CICL Operations, Partnerships and Strategic Planning.
• In collaboration with CICL Faculty Directors, develop and implement strategic initiatives and partnerships that position CICL as a thought leader on identified international and comparative law issues.
• Work with partners to develop and engage in strategies, programs, and partnerships, including funding agencies, international organizations, and NGOs.
• Oversee, develop, and manage the day-to-day financial and project management operations of CICL.
• Set and meet goals and timelines for the work of CICL and manage goals and timelines for those working with CICL.
• Coordinate with relevant faculty, staff and stakeholders to accomplish the goals of CICL.
• Participate in the hiring and supervision of potential future CICL staff.
• Manage and develop partnerships with international and comparative law professional associations.
• Build internal partnerships (including partnerships with LCDO, Externships, and relevant student groups) to support and advance student career development and opportunities in the fields of international and comparative law.
International Programs and Initiatives.
• Support strategic development and management of the Law School’s international programs and initiatives, including facilitating student programs and engagement (such as relevant courses, the Curacao and Aberdeen Summer Study Abroad programs, and international moot court competitions).
• Nurture existing and build new international partnerships.
Fundraising and Grant Initiatives.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with funders and other partners at the international, national, state, and local levels.
• Research, develop, and write CICL grant proposals and grant reports to maintain and grow CICL funding.
Publications, Communications and Marketing.
• Manage and support Center-related publications (including the American Journal of Comparative Law and International Encyclopedia of Comparative Law).
• Organize and implement Center events including conferences, lectures, and symposia for both internal and external audiences.
• Promote the Center’s public profile, including through alumni relations, social media and website efforts.
Required Education and Experience
Education: Juris Doctorate or an equivalent advanced law degree from a U.S. or foreign law school
Experience: Five years of experience in the research or practice of international and comparative law, expertise in international and comparative law, and experience with grant writing and reporting. Record of administrative and management experience, proven leadership and communication skills, a commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in international programs, and an innovative vision for the future of international programs, partnerships, and education. Preferred: Supervisory and leadership experience, participation in the strategic development of programs, working with students and faculty, and overseeing international programs in a law school or university setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience in area(s) of international and comparative law.
Strong and proven communication and relationship-building skills.
Excellent research and writing skills. Ability to undertake legal research and advance legal scholarship.
Public speaking experience and experience working with students preferred.
Ability to identify potential funding opportunities and to develop and implement extensive grant proposals and grant reports.
Ability to develop and implement presentations and workshops for internal and external audiences including practitioners, scholars, law students, and the global legal community.
Commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in international programs.
