The Office of Student Support (OSS) Program Lead is responsible for several key University-wide initiatives that are housed in the Office of Student Support such as mentoring, student conduct, and academic integrity. The successful candidate will be a student affairs generalist with an understanding of student development’s holistic nature.
This position leads the UBalt Connects Mentoring program by providing direction, management, and enhancement of the program in order to enhance the student experience, retention, and student success under the general supervision of the Dean of Students. The OSS Program Lead is responsible for the marketing of the program, pairing the mentees with appropriate mentors, tracking student success, determining and implementing appropriate programmatic changes to improve student success, and communicating with participants.
This position is also responsible for implementing the daily operations of the University’s student conduct program and academic integrity initiatives in a manner that encourages students to acknowledge responsibility for their actions and assist them in learning behaviors which will benefit them in becoming successful students and members of the larger community with supervision provided by the Director of Student Support.
This position collaborates with the Director of Student Support by coordinating policies, procedures, communications, and programs related to student conduct, academic integrity, behavior and personal concerns. This position serves as the primary investigator and adjudicator for lower-level Academic Integrity and Code of Conduct concerns. This position may also support the Director of Student Support and the Dean of Students with investigations related to discrimination and bias.
Specific duties include:
UBalt Connects Mentoring Program
• Oversee and manage all aspects of the UBalt Connects Mentoring program.
• Promote UBalt Connects to first-year, second-year, and lower division transfer students.
• Collaborate with University-wide advisory team to ascertain intersections with other mentoring programs on campus and leverage these opportunities to improve the UBalt Connects program.
• Determine strategic goals for the program and tailor program design and delivery to ensure delivery on these goals based upon assessment data, relevant research, benchmark information, and best practice knowledge.
• Supervise a Graduate Assistant dedicated to UBalt Connects.
• Manage program budget with periodic review from Dean of Students.
• Track and assess the retention and academic success of program participants.
Student Conduct Case Management & Conflict Resolution
• Manage caseload of university Code of Conduct/Academic Integrity policy concerns, and student complaints.
• Conduct informal/formal meetings with students. Gather information for conduct concerns. Conduct written and verbal communications in a professional and timely manner.
• Advise students of their rights and responsibilities with regard to university policy and procedures.
• Respond to judicial concerns in a professional and confidential manner. Maintain accurate judicial records and reports. Schedule judicial hearings.
• Provide support to the Director in developing assessment tools and resources for student policies and procedures.
• Provide formal and informal opportunities for student dispute management and resolution; provide information on resources available for conflict management.
Training/Educational Programming
• Coordinate the recruitment, selection and training of university board panelists and support individuals.
• Coordinate periodic activities/trainings for mentors and mentees.
• Develop and market services offered by the Office of Student Support. Develop educational materials for students, faculty, and staff relating to student code of conduct, academic integrity and other student policies and procedures.
• Provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff to learn about prevention of campus policy violations and alternate methods of conflict management.
Research/Reporting
• Produce reports and analysis regarding student conduct and the UBalt Connects mentoring program.
• Remain abreast of issues affecting university conduct policies and procedures, as well as best practices.
• Provide briefings to the Dean of Students on issues related to mentoring.
• Provide briefings to the Director of Student Support on issues affecting university conduct policies and processes as well as best practices in student conduct and conflict management.
The employee should be prepared to work a flexible schedule that may include occasional evening and/or weekend hours as required to respond to students and provide programming.
Required Education and Experience:
• Baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Conflict Management, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a field/discipline related to the responsibilities of the position.
• Two years of experience with student conduct, conflict resolution, education, student affairs, residence life, legal affairs, criminal justice or other related area.
Preferred Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Conflict Management, Applied Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a field/discipline related to the responsibilities of the position.
• Three years of experience planning, executing and evaluating training and programs; providing mediation, facilitation, conflict coaching, restorative justice and/or other conflict management certifications/experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of student development, issues, and programming that impact student behavior, university policy, and student experience.
• Ability to assess complex situations, render fair judgment, and maintain ethical and professional standards.
• Capacity to cultivate and maintain relationships with University administrators, staff, faculty and students.
• Propensity to simultaneously plan, organize and coordinate multiple projects.
• Proficiency in developing and implementing assessment strategies, processes and reports and using such information to formulate and implement strategic and operational goals.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and the use of institutional software systems.
• Knowledge of Title IX and other related regulatory compliance.
