The primary focus of the Assistant Director of Donor Engagement is stewarding the University’s donors and prospects through special communications, stewardship touches, and other engagement activities that create a meaningful and substantive relationship that will deepen their commitment to the University. This role will participate in both routine and special initiatives that communicate the impact of philanthropy, thank donors for their ongoing support, and share with them current news about university initiatives, activities, and priorities. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, this role will work closely with development staff and those in the stewardship department to ensure that we are thoughtfully and strategically engaging The University of Baltimore’s community of donors. The diversity of workload requires teamwork, flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments. This position also requires tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with both internal and external constituencies.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
Donor Communication
• Coordinates and disseminates fund specific online giving thank you emails
• Produces routine birthday, condolence, congratulations, and holiday messages
• Executes special stewardship touches for specific segments (permanent stewardship, recurring donors, new donors, etc.)
• Makes thank you calls
Information Management
• Coordinates and documents secondary stewardship touches from campus partners
• Surveys and documents donor communications preferences
• Manages actions uploads and/or contact reports for all secondary stewardship activity
Identify Opportunities
• Identifies opportunities and collaborates closely with priority area colleagues to identify and deliver content, news and stories with current and potential donor partners
Special Events and Projects
• Provides support for special events and projects, including stewardship plans for special giving days and initiatives
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree
Required Experience:
One year of professional work experience in fundraising, development, alumni relations, donor relations, nonprofit communications, or similar professional work experience. Previous experience in a role that interacts with donors, alumni, and/or volunteers. Experience with project management.
Preferred Experience:
• Experience using a CRM and/or donor database.
• Experience working in a communications role.
• Experience working at an institution of higher education.
• Advanced Excel proficiency with experience managing, segmenting, and filtering large constituent data files.
• Strong understanding of digital communication tools and the knowledge and ability to create and adapt communications for different platforms and diverse individuals.

• Ability to work with a diverse range of constituents and community partners, including donors and volunteers as well as alumni, parents, friends, faculty, administrators, and internal colleagues.
• Ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, and effectively with varied internal and external constituencies.
• Must display a high level of maturity and personal integrity and ability to understand, develop, and sustain resilient and dynamic relationships with donors and colleagues.
• Exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Adept at problem-solving and using judgment in situations requiring independent initiative and tact.
• Proven ability to balance multiple concurrent tasks and priorities.
• Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the OAER.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Blackbaud CRM or similar donor database proficiency is required.
• Ease and comfort with meeting and interacting with new people.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including ability to work with diverse individuals over the phone, in written correspondence, and in person.
