Description:

Poet-playwright Denise Gantt's powerful "utterance with movement" piece, Mediations/from the ash, will be performed by UB and local actors, Yakima Rich, Shelby Sullivan, and Ke'ja Telp. Inspired by Ntozake Shange's brilliant choreopoem, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, Gantt's performance mediation reflects on being a single mother of color in Baltimore. Directed by Natalya Brusilovsky and free to the public, the staged reading is the final event in the 10th Annual African-American Arts Festival.
