Description:

At the beginning of the quarantine we held weekly philosophy common hours to stay connected and to keep the philosophy gears turning. We’ve decided to revamp the common hours since they’re so much fun and hold so much value. We’re not just continuing common hour, we’re continuing the great philosophical tradition of conversation and dialogue.

The first article we chose is of particular interest, as it will set a foundation for the rest of our discussions. This week’s article is about how language and culture affects our mathematic reasoning. Naturally, this article should yield a discussion on some fundamental philosophical ideas like those relating to our perception and mental processes when reasoning.

These talks will be very open ended, and it’s not necessary to read the articles to participate, but we offer them as a grounding point.

The discussions are intended to be open and inclusive to all. This is a space for the sharing of ideas, with the intent of exploring those ideas in a philosophical manner.

The first Common Hour will be held on Monday, Feb. 28 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. via Zoom, continuing every other week throughout the spring 2022 semester.
