Divya Hazel, a student in the University of Baltimore's Negotiations and Conflict Management graduate program, recently received recognition for her work in the United States Air Force's Workforce Recruitment Program at Joint Base Andrews. Hazel earned the 2015 Judith C. Gilliom Oustanding Workforce Recruitment Program Award.
Hazel "demonstrated quality and excellence in the broad range of tasks performed during her assignment as the Assistant Air Force Disability Program Manager at Joint Base Andrews," the Air Force said in a statement. "Her efforts reached multiple diverse communities making a significant impact across the Air Force."
The Workforce Recruitment Program is "a recruitment and referral program that connects hiring managers with highly motivated postsecondary students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace," officials said. The federal Office of Personnel Management has called the program a model strategy for achieving the president's goals of increasing federal employment of individuals with disabilities.
Hazel was one of four employees to receive the Gilliom award, which is named for the late Judith C. Gilliom, a founder and the first director of disability programs for the Department of Defense and an advocate for employment opportunities for those with disabilities throughout her career in the federal government.
