Mathematics Professor Appointed to Governor's Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs

Haitham Alkhateeb, professor of mathematics and director of the Mathematics Learning Center in the University of Baltimore's Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences, has been appointed by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to serve on the state's Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs. Prof. Alkhateeb will serve for a term of four years on the commission, which acts as a liaison between the state and Maryland's Middle Eastern community regarding matters of social, cultural, and commercial importance. His appointment will begin on July 1.
"Thank you for making this strong personal and professional commitment to serve the best interest of our citizens," Gov. Hogan said in a letter to Prof. Alkhateeb. "I know we will succeed in our goal to make a positive difference for all Marylanders, especially with your assistance and support."
"It is always important to look at the big picture and create an innovative and effective future for all citizens," Prof. Alkhateeb said. "I am prepared to take on such duties to the best of my abilities to serve the state and Maryland's Middle Eastern American community. I am very excited for this opportunity and I look forward to it."
