The University of Baltimore's Schaefer Center for Public Policy has launched a new program to help managers and individual contributors take their public speaking skills to the next level. The four-week Certificate in Professional Presentation Skills guides participants through the verbal and nonverbal techniques that are essential for delivering a compelling professional presentation. Through interactive activities and small-group exercises, participants improve their ability to engage an audience and to speak with confidence.
Participants in the program will meet once a week on four consecutive Fridays, beginning Oct. 14. The program includes breakfast, all books and materials, detailed PowerPoint slides, a recording of an in-class presentation and professional networking opportunities.
The new certificate program includes four research-based modules:
- The Fundamentals of Effective Speaking
- Presentation Development
- Verbal and Nonverbal Delivery
- Workplace Briefings
The Certificate in Professional Presentation Skills provides a unique opportunity for participants to learn how to organize and deliver workplace presentations that energize their listeners and motivate them to take action. Unlike many other public speaking programs, which are taught by professional consultants or trainers, the Schaefer Center program will be taught by Steven D. Cohen, assistant professor in UB's Klein School of Communications Design. Prof. Cohen is an award-winning researcher and teacher with a long track record of helping professionals become powerful communicators.
The Certificate in Professional Presentation Skills is a limited-enrollment program intended for public, private, and nonprofit professionals who want to stand out from their peers and achieve their professional goals.
