A student from the University of Baltimore’s School of Criminal Justice will receive financial support from the Maryland Law Enforcement Officers, Inc., a private non-profit organization based in Baltimore and dedicated to the promotion of best practices, efficiencies and crime-prevention measures throughout the state.
On Tuesday, July 5, MLEO officials met with UB President Kurt L. Schmoke, College of Public Affairs Dean Roger Hartley and Debra Stanley, professor and executive director of the School of Criminal Justice to present a check to the University of Baltimore Foundation.
Continuing this longtime partnership between MLEO and the University, the annual need-based scholarship is presented to a UB student who is planning a career in law enforcement. The student must be in good academic standing, a permanent resident of Maryland, and demonstrate his or her need for assistance. The scholarship recipient is selected by the faculty of the School of Criminal Justice.
"Our School of Criminal Justice has proudly filled the precincts of regional law enforcement agencies with its alumni," Hartley said. "The long time support from MLEO insures access to this wonderful field of public service for yet another student."
MLEO has offered the UB scholarship every year since the inception of the University’s criminal justice program in 1969.
