UB President Kurt Schmoke Named 'Influential Marylander' by Daily Record

University of Baltimore President Kurt L. Schmoke is one of six leaders from education to be named to the Daily Record's 2018 Influential Marylanders list. The publication also included a UB alumna in its gathering of "people who have made significant impacts in their field and continue to be leaders in Maryland."
President Schmoke was appointed president ofd the University in 2014. Schmoke served as the mayor of Baltimore from 1987-1999 and was the Baltimore City State's Attorney from 1982-1987. Prior to joining UB, he was dean of the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C., from 2003-2012. Following that, he was appointed general counsel for Howard and also served as the institution’s interim provost.
In talking about UB with the Daily Record, Prwesident Schmoke said: "The University of Baltimore is one of the important anchor institutions in the city. It has a great legacy of offering a fine education in law, business and applied liberal arts. I viewed the presidency as an opportunity to build on that legacy and to nurture the next generation of leaders for our community."
Also honored as a 2018 Influential Marylander, in the General Business category, is Sheryl Davis Kohl, MPA '86, founder of Beacon Staffing Alternatives, Inc.
