Llatetra Brown Esters, former senior director of athletics and student conduct and a deputy Title IX coordinator at Howard Community College, has been named Dean of Students at the University of Baltimore. In this role, Esters will oversee the various functions of the Office of Community Life at UB. Esters began at the University on Jan. 22.
The Office of Community Life includes an array of student-focused programs, services, and functions, including mentorships, disability and access assurance, community standards (code of conduct, academic integrity adjudication, and student sexual misconduct), and individualized support for students who are going through difficult situations.
Esters, who previously served as director of student programs and advocacy at the University of Maryland, College Park, prior to joining Howard Community College as its director of Student Life in 2004, said she will bring her years of experience to bear in supporting the academic, personal and professional goals of each member of UB's unique student population.
"I am excited to join the University community and look forward to helping our students succeed," Esters said. "I have already had the opportunity to meet members of the student body, and I am struck by their diversity, determination, and drive."
Esters's expertise includes strategic planning, personnel management and supervision, policy development, budget development and oversight, and assessment. Her background also includes extensive work in programming and student leadership development.
Esters received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Adelphi University, a Master of Arts in student personnel administration from New York University, and a Doctorate of Education in higher education and community college leadership from Morgan State University.
