Gabriela Wasileski, assistant professor and director of the Criminal Justice undergraduate program in the University of Baltimore's School of Criminal Justice in the College of Public Affairs, has been recommended to the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a tenure of three years. The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as researchers and expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of two to six weeks.
According to the Fulbright Specialist Program, this U.S. Department of State initiative places Prof. Wasileski among a competitive pool of candidates who are eligible to be matched with projects designed by host institutions in more than 150 countries around the world, at any time during her three-year tenure on the roster.
Among the kinds of projects Prof. Wasileski may be invited to take on are:
- research;
- community engagement;
- delivery of a seminar or workshop;
- development of academic or training curricula and materials;
- graduate or undergraduate lectures;
- consultation on faculty or workforce development;
- development of institution’s or program’s needs assessments or evaluations.
Debra Stanley, professor and executive director of the School of Criminal Justice, said the nature of the Fulbright Specialist Program affords a rising scholar like Prof. Wasileski the freedom to continue to teach and conduct research without devoting months or even years of her time to the Fulbright scholar process.
"For Prof. Wasileski, entry into this prestigious program provides the opportunity to extend her capacity to contribute to migration and criminal justice and other public agendas through policy-oriented and data-oriented approaches and to collaborate, provide training and technical assistance globally," Prof. Stanley said. "This is an exciting opportunity and a wonderful testament to the quality and value of her scholarship and expertise."
