Voter Referendum | 9:30 -10:30 a.m.
In light of Maryland’s limited use of the voter referendum process, how did same-sex marriage, gambling, and redistricting make it to the ballot in 2012, and once there, how were they campaigned and marketed? Will voter referendum arise again in the near future? How will the referendum results affect the Maryland legal community?
Moderator: Associate Dean Victoria Schultz
- Delegate Sandy Rosenberg
- Hon. Shannon Avery
- Aaron Merki, CEO Free State Legal Project
- David Rocah, Maryland ACLU
Adjudication | 10:45 -11:45 a.m.
In recent sessions the Court of Appeals adjudicated controversial issues such as appointed counsel for bail bond hearings, strict liability for pit bull owners, and contributory negligence, amongst others, which have been addressed by the legislature as well. What do these results tell us about the dynamic relationship between the legislature and judiciary?
