Logos—graphic designs that signify the work of a company or organization, often combining typography and illustration in clever, visually stunning ways—are a hallmark of modern design. From Nike's "swoosh" or NASA's field of stars, to the seemingly timeless symbols used by Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Ford, the logo stands at the pinnacle of virtually any organization’s brand identity.
Over the years, designers from metropolitan Baltimore have made major contributions to the art and craft of logo design. The part they have played in the success of the area's business community cannot be overestimated.
A special exhibition in the University of Baltimore Student Center Gallery, located at 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave., will celebrate a number of logos by these local designers. The show, which will include a reception on Sunday, March 9 (R.S.V.P. below) in the Bogomolny Room adjacent to the gallery, clearly illustrates the quality and professional expertise that these designers deliver every day to the business community.
Designers whose work will be on display include Dave Ashton, JJ Chrystal, Nathalie Cone, Jason Drumheller, Kat Feuerstein, Jenny Hoffman, Doug Hucker, Carl Nielson, Bob Shelley, Dan Shub, Nolen Strals, Scott Sugiuchi, David Taylor, Colin Tierney, Glen Villegas, Bruce Willen, Cathy Yates, and Ronnie Younts.
The exhibit will be on display in the Student Center Gallery (located on the top floor of the center) from March 5 through May 28. Gallery hours are:
- Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
