The Judicial Institute of Maryland and the University of Baltimore School of Law invite all judges to attend "Veterans' Needs: The Current State of Veterans in Our Courts."

The conference will bring together a diverse group of judges, scientists and practitioners to examine the cultural, legal and clinical understandings of current issues facing veterans. This program is designed to improve a judge's understanding of the complex web of problems facing veterans and address challenges faced by the judiciary when adjudicating cases which involve veterans.

This conference will focus on the following topics:

• the links between substance abuse, suicide and PTSD.
• the development of veterans' treatment courts.
• strategies to assist the veteran's family: incentives and sanctions.

Dr. David Williamson, Neuropsychiatry and Traumatic Brain Injury Program, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center;

Hugh McClean, University of Baltimore School of Law, Veterans Advocacy Clinic;
Sean Clark, National Coordinator, Veterans Justice Outreach, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs;

Dr. Brian Meyer, Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Va.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
All judges, both in Maryland and outside the state, who may preside over cases involving veterans.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Registration is free for everyone. A block of rooms has been reserved at Embassy Suites, 222 St. Paul Place in Baltimore. Maryland judges will be sponsored by the Judicial Institute. Travel scholarships up to $500 may be available for out-of-state judges.
