College Athletics and the Law: University of Maryland Football and Insights from Members of the Independent Commission
Tuesday, March 5, 5 – 6:30 p.m., 12th Floor Reading Room
An independent commission was appointed to investigate the UM football program following the death of Jordan McNair, a University of Maryland football player, from heat stroke in the spring of 2018. DLA Partner Charles Scheeler was appointed to the commission and led the DLA Piper legal team’s investigation. Mr. Scheeler will be joined by DLA Piper associates and UB Law alumni Darryl Tarver (UB ’14) and A. Neill Thupari (UB ’14) to discuss the investigation, as well as the variety of legal issues arising from college athletic programs. Associate Dean Dionne Koller will moderate the discussion.
