Laurence Short Academic Award for International Students 2012-13 Presentation

The Lyric

Congratulations to Mr. Yueh-Chiao Lee and Ms. Kseniya Rubejanskaya, winners of the 2012-13 Laurence Short Academic Award for Internaitonal Students.

Official certificate presentations will be made at the annual Eubie Awards ceremony on Friday, May 3 at the Lyric Lobby. Each also received a $500 cash award.
Mr. Lee is an MBA/JD student from Taiwan. Ms. Rubejanska is a B.S. in Health Systems Management major from Uzbekistan. Both have excelled academically, been involved in campus activities and community service, and set the bar high for UB students to follow.
The award, made possible by the generosity of UB alumnus Dr. Ali Alemi (M.S.,'78), recognizes academic excellence among international students. The endowment also funds an emergency award program. The endowment is named in honor of the late Laurence Short, former International Student Advisor at UB.
Criteria include an essay titled, "The Obstancles an International Student Must Overcome to Achieve Academic Success and How I Did So."
This year's selection committee included Professors Laura Wilson-Gentry, Nicole Hudgins and Dong Chen, Mr. Morad Eghbal, Dr. Alemi, Wendy Burgess and Jason ReBrassier.
