National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week - Nov. 16-24

When:

Description:

Homelessness affects an estimated 4,000 people in Baltimore. Despite Maryland being one of the wealthiest states, one in 4 Baltimore City residents live below the poverty line. Join Be More as we recognize National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week: November 16- 24 and find out what you can do to help.

  • Nov. 16-24: Online Poverty Simulation. Be More challenges the UB community to play SPENT, a powerful poverty simulation where players are placed in the shoes of a low income worker and must make difficult decisions in order survive on $1,000 for one month and avoid becoming homeless. Once you take the simulation, reflect on Be More's Facebook Page.
  • Nov. 18-20: Information and Resource tables.  We will have resource and information tables in the Student Center (Nov. 18) and Thueml Business Center (Nov. 19 and 20) where you can find out more about hunger and homelessness and Baltimore and find out what you can do to help.  We encourage you to bring a canned good for "You Can Help" - UB's contribution to the Laywer's Campaign Against Hunger.
  • Thursday, Nov. 21, 4-5:15 p.m. We will hold an intimate discussion about poverty with people who have experienced homelessness, in partnership with Project PLASE (People Lacking Ample Shelter and Employment). Refreshments will be served.  RSVP here.
