16mm Film Handling Workshop

Langsdale Library: Learning Commons, third Floor

This workshop will provide attendees with hands-on training in safely handling 16 mm -film archival materials.

The morning session will consist of: a lecture introducing the physical and chemical properties of film as well as the history of motion picture film’s many formats (focusing on 16 mm). The lecture will also address proper documentation, assessment, and storage needs. The day will conclude with a demonstration of 16 mm inspection, repair, and rehousing for preservation.

During the afternoon session, the workshop participants will split into groups and each attendee will inspect, repair, and rehouse a 16 mm film from our collection or feel free to bring a 16mm film of your own (under the careful supervision of the AV archivist).

Space is limited to 8 people: please RSVP by October 31, 2014.
