The University of Baltimore School of Law's Black Law Students Association will host its annual celebration of Black History Month—this year a diversity panel symposium exploring the theme, "Have We Reached the Mountaintop?: Perspectives on Minority Progress"—on Friday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the School of Law's Moot Court Room, 1415 Maryland Ave. The event is intended to provide minorities with the facts and statistics necessary to formulate a realistic perspective on their personal and collective progress, initiate an open dialogue that will challenge attendees to ponder the barriers to diversity and equal access, and identify how diversity issues impact the law and the American legal structure.
Moderated by William "Billy" Murphy, attorney and founding partner of Murphy, PA, the event is free and open to the public.
Confirmed panelists include:
Verna Myers, author of Moving Diversity Forward and a nationally recognized expert on diversity issues within law firms and other legal settings;
Willarda Edwards, president and COO of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America and the first black woman to serve as president of the Maryand State Medical Society;
Dedrick Muhammad, senior director of the NAACP's Economic Department and former national crisis coordinator for the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network;
Indira Sharma, vice chair of the Diversity Committee at Saul Ewing, LLP, and a specialist in federal, commercial and real estate litigation for the firm;
Hans I. Moore, assistant state's attrney for Montgomery County and a member of the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association Board of Directors.
This event is sponsored by the Latin American Law Student Association, Saul Ewing, LLP, and Murphy, PA.
