The University of Baltimore School of Law will host a conversation with United States Attorney General Eric Holder on public service, federal law enforcement, civil rights and other subjects of interest to the legal community and beyond, on Thursday, Nov. 8 at noon in the school's Venable Baetjer Howard Moot Court Room, 1415 Maryland Ave. Following introductory remarks by the Attorney General, UB School of Law Dean Ronald Weich will engage in a dialogue with Holder based in part on questions submitted by audience members. This event is free and open to the public, although seating is limited and an R.S.V.P. is required (details below).
Holder is the nation's 82nd attorney general and the first African-American to hold this position. He has served as an appointee of three U.S. presidents: He was appointed by President Reagan to serve as a judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia; he was appointed by President Clinton to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and later as Deputy Attorney General; and was appointed by President Obama to his current position. Immediately prior to his current appointment, Holder was a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling.
A graduate of Columbia Law School and Columbia College, Holder has received numerous accolades during his legal career. Legal Times magazine named him one of the "Greatest Washington Lawyers of the Past 30 Years" in 2008 while he was still in private practice. The National Law Journal declared him one of "the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America" that same year, noting his work in civil litigation and white-collar defense. Recently, the National Urban League declared Holder a "Living Legend."
Ronald Weich was named dean of the School of Law in May of this year. Prior to coming to Baltimore, Weich served under Holder as the Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs. Weich is a graduate of Yale Law School and Columbia College.
