Recognizing that its alumni have achieved a national reach not only in the practice of law but in dozens of professions whether related to the law or not, the University of Baltimore School of Law will host its second annual homecoming and reunion for all alumni on Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3 in Baltimore. The two-day event will feature a special symposium on important white-collar crime as well as social events for alumni and their families.
Returning members of the classes of ’54, ’64, ’74, ’79, ’84, and ’94 will be recognized during the event. Attending members from the Class of 1954 will be presented with special certificates commemorating the 50th anniversary of their graduation.
Gilbert Holmes, dean of the School of Law, said the Homecoming theme, “UB Law Alumni Are Everywhere,” signifies the national depth and breadth that its more than 10,000 alumni have achieved in any number of professions, especially in recent years.
“We have a tradition contributing to the inner workings of the legal community, but that’s not all,” Holmes said. “Our alumni truly are everywhere. Now it’s time to invite them back from across the country to celebrate the continuing growth and prominence of the law school, and to recognize with pride that UB School of Law is represented throughout the legal profession.”
A highlight of the celebration will be a symposium, “White Collar Crime in the New Millenium,” on Oct. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Poe’s Publick House in the law school. It will feature Thomas M. DiBiagio, U.S. attorney for Maryland; David B. Irwin, noted defense attorney from Irwin, Green & Dexter, LLP, of Towson; and the Hon. William D. Quarles Jr., U.S. District Court judge. Their discussion, moderated by Isabel Cumming, M.B.A. ’89, J.D. ’93, state’s attorney for Prince George’s County, will focus on important white-collar criminal cases from the perspectives of the prosecution, the defense, and the bench.
Other scheduled events include a softball game, beginning at 10 a.m. on Oct. 2 at the University’s Mt. Washington athletic fields, 2102 West Rogers Avenue; a dinner celebration beginning at 7 p.m. on Oct. 2 at Ixia, 518 N. Charles St.; a law school tour on Oct. 3 at 9 a.m.; and a farewell brunch beginning at 10 a.m., also in the law school.
