More than a dozen graduates of the University of Baltimore, each of whom has gone on to success in writing and publishing, will be feted by the University's Langsdale Library and the Office of Alumni Affairs during its inaugural Alumni Authors Celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the library, 1420 Maryland Ave. The event is free and open to the public; an R.S.V.P. is requested (see below for details).
UB has a remarkable number of authors who hold undergraduate or graduate degrees from the University. Many have contributed notable works of fiction or nonfiction, while some have become highly successful freelance writers, journalists and photojournalists. Some combine multiple skillsets to become not only authors, but also editors and publishers.
"We believe there are many, many writers out there with a UB degree in their past," said Lucy Holman, director of the Langsdale Library. "We want to commend them for their good work, and celebrate what they do alongside our students, faculty and friends."
The following accomplished authors will conduct brief readings from their works (noted by an asterisk) or participate in a panel discussion on the process of writing and publishing. Some also will have their books available during a reception at the event.
- Heather L. McKenzie*, B.S. '02, author of the poetry collection There Comes a Time in a Woman's Life
