The University of Baltimore School of Law's Law Forum and the Black Law Student Association will host a panel discussion on the state of the four Maryland Historically Black Colleges and Universities' (HBCUs) 14-year effort to achieve parity within the University System of Maryland, on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. This virtual symposium is free and open to the public. Registration and attendance details are listed below.
"HBCUs v. Maryland: Is There a Solution in Sight?" will examine Maryland's history of de jure practices in higher education while explaining the impact this system has on HBCUs in Maryland. The panelists will also offer ways to potentially resolve the 14-year legal battle over HBCU programming and funding.
Panelists include State Sen. Charles Sydnor; Del. Darryl Barnes; John Pierre, chancellor, Southern University Law Center; Prof. M. Sammye Miller of Bowie State University; and Pace McConkie, director of the Center for Civil Rights in Education at Morgan State University. University of Baltimore President Kurt L. Schmoke will moderate the discussion.
