Prof. Alan Lyles Receives University of Helsinki Honorary Doctorate

Alan Lyles, the Henry A. Rosenberg Professor of Government, Business, and Nonprofit Partnerships in The University of Baltimore's School of Public and International Affairs and the School of Health and Human Services, received an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Helsinki in Finland on May 26. He was among a group of 30 scholars from around the world, and one of 11 in the Doctor of Philosophy category, to be recognized by one of the world's oldest and most prestigious educational institutions. As part of the induction ceremony, Prof. Lyles receive the university's traditional Ph.D. sword and hat, indicating a commitment to academic research and "the fight for what is good, right and true."
Prof. Lyles, who has conducted research and provided advice on that country's healthcare and social service systems as a Fulbright Specialist, traveled to Finland to receive the honor during a special ceremony.
