We know it is important to recognize the hard work and determination of UB grads. We have planned a special series of acknowledgments to celebrate UB students and their accomplishments. This special video celebration recognizes UB’s graduating class of 2020. The page will include several other videos, acknowledgments, and a list of graduates.
We will continue to update this page with further information as we know more.
Please visit the University response to the COVID-19 pandemic page for ongoing updates.
Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement
It's your time to shine. Congratulations!
Graduating from college is a significant milestone. Commencement is a time for graduates, the campus community, as well as family, and guests to celebrate years of commitment and hard work. It is important to note that graduation and commencement involve the work of several offices. Therefore, if you have questions please consider reviewing the Whom to Contact List to help clarify the best office or organization to contact.
Commencement ceremonies occur twice a year for undergraduate and graduate students. In the Fall, undergraduates and graduates have a joint commencement ceremony. In the Spring, they are separate. For more information about deadlines, please view the chart on this page that includes all pertinent deadlines.
As a reminder, only students who complete all degree requirements may participate in the commencement ceremonies. Review the Graduation Applications and Eligibility page for additional information.
Is commencement cancelled?
Commencement is not cancelled, but is postponed until it is safe for us all to gather together again. Please continue to look for emails from us with updates to your postponed commencement ceremony date (tentatively May 2021, depending on social distancing guidelines).
Is there a virtual commencement for graduating students?
There is not a virtual commencement, but we are planning celebration for graduates, including recognition of graduates and a special video for graduates. We will post the video on our website and on our social media channels.
Will I still graduate without a commencement ceremony?
Rescheduling commencement will not delay conferring of your degree for UB* graduates. Degrees will be conferred for students who meet graduation requirements. Please see the Office of Records and Registration (firstname.lastname@example.org) for any questions related to receipt of your degree.
I claimed tickets for a previous postponed commencement ceremony, are they still valid?
All tickets for previous ceremonies are no longer valid. When a new commencement date is announced, we will send ticketing information to May 2020, December 2020, and May 2021 graduates.
Can I still purchase my cap and gown?
Yes, you can purchase your cap and gown from https://ub.shopoakhalli.com/purchasewizard/Welcome.
Can I appeal to participate in a different ceremony?
The Commencement Appeal form will be closed until further notice as the University considers a rescheduled date. Any commencement appeals forms received will not be reviewed or approved until such time as a new date is established. Please refer to the Commencement Appeal Policy for further information on appeals. This policy will be reviewed carefully before any further appeals are considered based on necessary decisions related to the postponement of commencement and the university response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
