As a young man, I studied for the Roman Catholic priesthood for four years. Later, I obtained my law degree, and as a much older person, I received my doctorate in American colonial history. These varied life experiences are reflected in my teaching and research interests. I currently teach courses in American legal and constitutional history and American religious history.
My work, "The Political Judge: Justice John McLean’s Pursuit of the Presidency," in Ohio History, 111 (Summer/Autumn 2002): 121-144, can be read online.
