Applying the University's academic expertise to improving Maryland's public and nonprofit sectors.

Established in 1985, the William Donald Schaefer Center for Public Policy is Maryland's preeminent applied research and policy analysis center. As part of the University of Baltimore's College of Public Affairs, the center offers opportunities for faculty and students to put their knowledge to work on research and technical assistance projects sponsored by local, state and federal governments, nonprofit organizations and other enterprises.

The center's renowned work applies the University's academic expertise to solving problems faced by Maryland's public sector. The center has earned a reputation for excellence in:

  • management consulting
  • evaluative research
  • opinion research
  • professional development.

The Schaefer Center is committed to enhancing the University's academic environment by encouraging faculty and student applied research, fostering interdisciplinary research teams and supporting educational conferences. In addition, the center offers fellowships each year that provide graduate students with a unique opportunity to work closely with faculty members while gaining real-world experience through participation in center projects.

Baltimore Standing Together

The Schaefer Center has partnered with city leaders, The Baltimore Sun and WJZ-TV to host "Baltimore: Standing Together," a three-part series of town halls to encourage public dialogue and increased awareness of potential solutions.
