The Schaefer Center for Public Policy offers managers and supervisors a leg up through a nationally accredited leadership development program.

Maryland's leaders now have the opportunity to gain the comprehensive, applied management skills needed to meet the complex demands and challenges of the 21st century.

The Schaefer Center, in association with Maryland Nonprofits, is offering the Certified Public Manager Program® for state, local and nonprofit employees who supervise or manage employees or large projects. The program runs 14 months in a nonresidential format. Learn more.

Our center of excellence, the William Donald Schaefer Center for Public Policy, has been known as the pre-eminent public policy research center in Maryland for more than 25 years.

Its renowned work applies the University's academic expertise to solving problems faced by government and nonprofit organizations. The center has earned a reputation for excellence in management consulting, evaluative research, opinion research and professional development. It also conducts applied research, particularly in areas relevant to faculty members' fields of expertise, and provides public service to the Baltimore metropolitan area and to the state of Maryland.

The center is committed to enhancing the University's academic environment by encouraging faculty and student applied research, fostering interdisciplinary research teams and supporting educational conferences. In addition, the center offers fellowships each year that provide graduate students with a unique opportunity to work closely with faculty members while gaining real-world experience through participation in center projects.
