The University of Baltimore is among 228 colleges and universities nationwide selected for Phi Theta Kappa's 2024 Transfer Honor Roll, "in recognition of the dynamic pathways they have created to support transfer students."
According to Phi Theta Kappa, UBalt's inclusion on this list is the result of 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices, and bachelor's degree completion.
"The Transfer Honor Roll was based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse, and on data submitted through the four-year institution's profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa's online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways."
Colleges completing the profile are given a Transfer Friendliness Rating; the Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25 percent highest-rated colleges.
This is the second year in a row that The University of Baltimore has made PTK's Transfer Honor Roll—the only Maryland institution to achieve that status.
"The University of Baltimore is home to many success stories from transfer students, and this accolade from PTK confirms our commitment to service, support and academic quality for every student who seeks to continue their education with us," says UBalt President Kurt L. Schmoke. "We make transferring to our campus easy, and we work with these students to ensure that their graduation and career plans are solid. It's not unusual for transfer students to tell us that with UBalt, they finally found a way for higher education to work for them—not the other way around. We're proud to be recognized nationally for our efforts."
PTK says that the Transfer Honor Roll recognizes the importance of creating "strong transfer pathways that lead to excellence and success among community college transfer students."
The criteria for the Transfer Honor Roll include:
- College Cost and Financial Aid: This includes the availability of financial aid, the percentage of transfer students receiving merit-based aid, and the overall affordability of the institution.
- Recruitment and Admissions Practices: How well the institution recruits and supports transfer students during the admissions process.
- Campus Life for Transfer Students: The quality and inclusivity of campus life specifically tailored for transfer students.
- Bachelor's Degree Completion: The success rate of transfer students in completing their bachelor's degrees.
- Credit Transfer Policies: How effectively the institution accepts and applies transfer credits toward degree requirements.
