Blair Blankinship, director of procurement for the University of Baltimore's Department of Procurement and Materials Management, submitted this image of the construction of the student-housing development known as The Varsity to our UBalt Pics project. Here's what he has to say about the picture, and his love of photography:
"The image was made with a 10 megapixel DSLR, and a 10-20 mm (wide angle) lens set to 12mm (or about 18mm on a standard 35 mm camera—a very wide angle shot). The image was made from the top of the Maryland Avenue Garage [at the corner of Maryland Avenue and Biddle Street]. The aperture was set at f11, but the exposure was a combination of three 'bracketed' time exposures, combined in Photomatix (software) to produce the High Dynamic Range effect. The HDR effect allows one to combine the bright sky with the darker shadow areas into one image.
"I first got interested in photography in high school and was a yearbook photographer, developing film and making prints in a bathroom converted to a darkroom. Modern digital imaging tools now allow me to do all that and more, with the lights on! My favorite subjects are landscapes, including Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Md., the Shenandoah National Park, and other national parks. You can see many more photos on my Flickr pages at https://www.flickr.com/photos/_photosapien/."
