Pay Group Descriptions
Positions at the University of Baltimore are categorized in the following pay groups:
- Regular Exempt (EXE) All regular positions include a full benefits package including paid leave. Professional, managerial and executive positions are classified as Exempt on the basis of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Exempt employees serve at will and are not eligible for cash overtime.
- Regular Non-Exempt (NEX) All regular positions include a full benefits package including paid leave. Service, technical, clerical and paraprofessional positions are classified as non-exempt under FLSA and are subject to cash overtime if required to work beyond a 40-hour workweek. Non-exempt employees serve a mandatory probationary period, and receive a salary adjustment upon successful completion of probation.
- Contingent I Employment - Exempt (C1E) or Non-Exempt (C1N) Employees hired under a written agreement for an appointment for six months or less, with no promise of renewal. Employees may be eligible for certain benefits.
- Contingent II Employment - Exempt (C2E) or Non-Exempt (C2N) Employees hired under a written agreement for six months or more, and the employee must work a minimum of 20 hours per week to qualify and be selected through a competitive recruitment. A limited leave package and benefits programs are available. Appointments may be renewable.
- Regular 10-Month Faculty (F26) Faculty who are hired in a regular position may be on a tenure-track, visiting, clinical or tenure appointment. All regular faculty positions, at least 50% full-time equivalent (FTE), include a full benefits package. F26 faculty are paid on a 26 pay schedule. F26 faculty earn sick leave only.
- Regular 12-Month Faculty (F12) Faculty who are hired in a regular position may be on a tenure track or tenure appointment. All regular faculty positions, at least 50% full-time equivalent (FTE), include a full benefits package. F12 faculty are eligible for annual, sick, personal, and holiday leave.
- Librarians (LIB) Librarians hired in a regular position are considered faculty. All regular library positions, at least 50% full-time equivalent (FTE), include a full benefits package. Librarians are eligible for annual, sick, personal, and holiday leave.
- Adjunct part-time appointments by semester (ADJ) Faculty who are hired to teach one or more courses for a specific semester. These teaching appointments are paid a flat rate for each course taught. Adjunct faculty may be eligible for certain benefits.
- Graduate Assistants (GRA), Student Assistants and College Work Study Students (NBC) Students are hired to work on a part-time basis in academic and administrative offices. Students may not work more than 20 hours per week in combined assignments and are not eligible for benefits or leave.
