Assistant Vice President for Major Gifts

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000

Under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Assistant Vice President of Major Gifts collaborates with senior staff, faculty, alumni, board members and volunteers to develop and implement initiatives and strategies for successful major gift solicitation and campaign planning and management.

Responsible for proactively and cooperatively identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospect and donors, with an emphasis of gifts or $25k or greater.

The Assistant VP provides leadership in planning, directing and managing the fundraising activities in the areas of Corporate & Foundation Relations and Major Gifts.  This position will also work closely with the Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement and play a key role in developing and building the Planned Giving program.

The position will have a prospect portfolio, activity and productions metrics, travel and participation in evening and weekend work-related activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Assists in the creation/direction of fundraising strategy, philosophy and methodology for the institution.
  •  Manage assigned portfolio of major gift prospects and creates and executes cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for major gift prospects and donors.
  •  Manages and leads the planning and execution of comprehensive campaigns and special projects.
  •  Works with key University leaders and volunteers on fundraising and campaign initiatives.
  •  Provides effective leadership, support and direction for the Director Foundation Relations and Major gift leadership.
  •  Plays a key role in developing, implementing and promoting the planned giving program.
  •  Represents the University of Baltimore at system meetings when necessary.
  •  Represents the Office of Institutional Advancement to donors, board members, alumni, staff, faculty and others within the community.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree (Advance degree preferred) and 5 years proven track record of successfully closing gifts of $25k+ (outright and planned).
•Knowledge, training and experience in the area of major gifts and the principles and fundamentals of fundraising, including prospect research, portfolio and pipeline management, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
•Leadership experience in a comprehensive campaign setting – including designing, planning and executing a plan for a multi-faceted institution.
•Planned giving experience.
•An understanding of school-based development as well as corporate and foundation relations.
•Success in building productive, long term relationships with senior university administrators, faculty, staff, board members, volunteers and donors.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating personal integrity, creativity, flexibility, diplomacy and accountability.
•Ability to mentor and develop a high functioning work team.  Proven ability to collaborate across units and build consensus.
•Knowledge of advancement/development donor/prospect management systems – Raisers Edge experience preferred.
•Skills in planning, marketing and time management.
•Entrepreneurial spirit and results oriented.
