Nivel Gurung was looking for a university where he felt good about investing his time and money.
What Nivel, M.S. ’24, found in The University of Baltimore was an institution that invested back.
“UBalt reminded me that it’s never too late to dream bigger,” he said. “It reignited my passion for learning and leadership. UBalt didn’t just shape my career—it helped shape who I am today.”
Nivel chose UBalt because he knew its business programs had a strong reputation, particularly for working professionals. He enrolled in its M.S. in Finance program.
He had more than a decade of experience in the banking sector and wanted a place that would challenge him to grow academically and set him apart in the workforce.
“Finance has always been my passion. I wanted to strengthen my analytical skills and gain a deeper understanding of how global financial systems work,” he said.
During his time at the University, Nivel gained dividends that were both personal and academic. The students he met offered diverse perspectives that broadened his worldview and faculty showed they cared about his success, taking time to check in and inspiring him to reach farther.
The finance lessons he gained also met his expectations and helped him even after graduation.
“UBalt taught me to turn theory into action, something that’s been invaluable in my career. Through analytical thinking, leadership and hands-on projects, I gained confidence to solve complex financial problems.”
In 2025, Nivel started putting his UBalt knowledge to work as a finance manager at Transdev, a private sector operator of various modes of public transportation. Lessons in leadership gave him the skills and mindset he needed to pursue the work he wanted.
“UBalt gave me the tools and the confidence to excel in leadership roles,” he said. “The coursework, teamwork and mentorship prepared me to make strategic financial decisions and adapt to today’s fast-changing business environment.”
