Given the increasing interconnectedness of the world, understanding the digital landscape of other countries like Peru can be crucial for future careers in various global industries. Each year, we have many opportunities to learn more about how business is conducted around the world.
Priority Application Date is Monday, Dec. 2, 2024. If an applicant is accepted they
should be notified by the Merrick School of Business by Monday, Dec. 9, 2024.

Global Field Study - Frequently Asked Questions
*Scholarship
If you apply and are awarded Wright Global Scholars funds (a value up to $1,500) it
will defer a portion of the travel costs. $3,250 minus $1,500 = $1,750in travel costs
to you.
Students enrolled in a Merrick School of Business academic program are eligible for
Wright Global Scholars funding. Students may receive one-time funding as an undergraduate
and one-time funding as a graduate student.
Kevin Wynne, associate professor of management and Kathea Smith, assistant dean will lead the course.
This course is being offered in the 2026 Winter Session. Travel dates are Saturday,
January 10, 2026 - Saturday, January 17, 2026
Lima, Peru, is a vibrant city where history and modernity converge, offering a captivating
blend of ancient culture and contemporary life. Known as the gateway to Peru, it boasts
iconic landmarks such as the Plaza de Armas and the historic Monastery of San Francisco,
alongside pre-Columbian ruins like Huaca Pucllana, and the bustling, artistic neighborhoods
of Miraflores and Barranco. Beyond its rich cultural heritage and culinary excellence,
Lima also provides unique opportunities for professional exploration, with visits
to leading Peruvian companies in sectors like food and beverage (Backus and Johnston
Brewery, Don Jorge S.A.C., Redondos), construction and engineering (Cosapi, Grupo
Graña y Montero), social impact (Awamaki, ProMujer, Kunan), and manufacturing and
textiles (Grupo Icatex, Bama Sportswear, Industrias Nettalco S.A.), offering insights
into large-scale operations, sustainability, innovation, and social value creation.

During the pre-trip meetings, students will gain an understanding of the business environment in Peru.

Monday, Jan. 12 | Company visits with a theme of " Global Strategies for Textile Markets"
Tues. Jan. 13 | Company visits with a theme of "Business Below the Surface: Peru's Mining Sector"
Wednesday, Jan 14 | Full day of cultural activities includinf A hands-on cooking class.
Thursday, Jan 15 | Morning and afternoon company visits. Visit themes "The Business of Building - Construction and Engineering" and "Peru's Transportation and Logistics Sector"
Friday, Jan. 16 | Company visit (Social Change in Lima) and farewell dinner.
Saturday, Jan. 17 | Depart Lima for the U.S.
The total student cost for airfare, lodging, most local transportation, and trip organization is approximately $3,250.
In addition to travel costs, normal semester tuition and fees will apply for this three-credit (3cr) course.

1 All payments are completely non-refundable. In addition to the travel costs, students
are responsible for meals, incidental expenses and the tuition and fees associated
with this three-credit hour course in the Winter 2026 semester.
2 Final payment amount is dependent upon individual scholarship award.
The Wright Global Scholars fund will provide scholarships up to a maximum of $1,500 to eligible students.

Course Tuition Due: Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024.
Students will be given permission to enroll in MGMT 498/798 for Winter. Registration for the for the Winter term begins Oct. 27, 2025. Approved students will be given permission to enroll in this course and will receive registration instructions after the initial deposit is collected.
To obtain approval for this Field Study you must complete the Global Field Study Application Form. All approval and scholarship forms should be submitted to Kathea Smith, assistant dean (ksmith@ubalt.edu).
Global Field Studies offered through the Merrick School of Business are immersive learning experiences where you will visit companies and cultural sites over the course of 7 to 10 days. Participants should expect to participate in full days of activities and often walk more than 10,000 steps in a day.
