Baltimore's Neighborhoods are Active

What makes Baltimore unique is its jigsaw puzzle of over 270 neighborhoods, each a distinct community with a long tradition of residents taking initiative to organize, mobilize, and work together to make their lives and the lives of their neighbors, better.

Baltimore's neighborhoods contain more than 750 neighborhood associations, block clubs and other kinds of formal and informal groups organized by residents who work tirelessly to promote and ensure the health, safety and well being of their neighborhoods.

These voluntary associations are supported by about 40 community-based, nonprofit "umbrella" organizations, more than 40 community development corporations, and many other non-profit and business partners

In this section, you can find:

  • The formal neighborhood and community associations working in each neighborhood, along with links to their websites (if they have one).

Contact them to:

  • Find out which neighborhoods address similar issues, and join efforts,
  • Exchange ideas about what strategies work in different communities,
  • Find strategies in communities that have made a positive difference, and match those efforts in your community,
  • Celebrate the success of these groups as neighborhoods improve over time.
