Criminal Justice B.S.
Undergraduate Program Forensic Studies |
Criminal Justice:B.S. Undergraduate ProgramThe undergraduate Bachelor of Science program in Criminal Justice is administered in the College of Liberal Arts and through the Division of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Policy at the University of Baltimore. The key objective of the criminal justice program is meeting the educational needs of individuals planning criminal justice careers and individuals already working in the field of criminal justice. The program is designed to build upon and complement prior academic work and professional experience. The course of studies, therefore, integrates theory and practice in the study of crime and criminal justice. The program consists of a CORE that encompasses surveys of the criminal justice system and criminological theory, research design and analysis, and a capstone course which integrates the materials from other Core Courses. There are also AREA courses that ensure the student's upper level work in criminal justice includes at least one course focusing on each of the major components of the criminal justice system (law enforcement, courts & law, and corrections) while minimizing possible course duplication with lower division courses taken elsewhere. Finally, students take ELECTIVE courses in criminal justice ranging from prevention and comparative criminal justice to forensics. Students may also enroll in an internship to give them direct experience with an operational criminal justice agency. The Division also offers a full-weekend version of the B.S. in Criminal Justice. Classes are offered in a sequence that is amenable to program completion within two years. Three classes are offered on Saturdays.
