English Major

full-time, four-year day program and transfer program

Studying English means immersing yourself in a classic liberal arts education, but at UB, we offer something more.

For some, English major suggests an ivory tower life, reading dusty, outdated literature, removed from and unprepared for the realities of life in the 21st century. For others, it suggests the Language Police, people always ready to tell you that you dangled a participle, that you need to learn the difference between may and can, that you should always put I before E except after C.

Our Bachelor of Arts in English program, offered by the School of Communications Design, is something else entirely. With specializations in literature, the writing programs and discourse & technology, UB's English program prepares students for positions in publications and communications (media production, graphic design, electronic publishing, writing, editing and public relations) and provides a solid education in theory and literary studies for those who intend to pursue graduate degrees.
