Course: MGMT 498 / MGMT 798 Global Field Study: France (3 credits)
This course will expose students to the business practices, culture, and people in France.
To better understand and succeed in global business today, there is no better way than direct experience through immersing oneself in a foreign environment. This course will provide an opportunity for lectures and discussion with local experts and students regarding key themes of economic, political and cultural importance to business. The course will engage students in field visits to companies, government agencies and other organizations located abroad. -
Prerequisites
Prerequisite: MGMT 605 for graduate students, MGMT 302 for undergraduates or with department consent . All students must be in good academic standing.

Description
This course is being offered in the Spring Semester of 2024. Travel dates are Saturday, March 16, 2024 - Saturday, March 24, 2024.
Paris offers a captivating blend of business and culture. It's a global hub for fashion, finance, and tech, fostering innovation and networking. The city's iconic landmarks, world-class museums, and culinary scene celebrate its rich heritage, making it an inspiring backdrop for learning and personal growth for students. Company visits and cultural attractions in Paris are scheduled from Sunday, Mar. 17- Thursday, Mar. 21.
On Thursday, Mar. 21, we'll travel 370 miles to the south of France to the city of Montpellier. This city has a youthful energy with a thriving business landscape. Its renowned universities incubate innovation in life sciences and technology. The city's historic architecture, Mediterranean charm, and vibrant arts scene cultivate a unique cultural environment.
In both cities you'll experience lectures focused on European entrepreneurship including arts entrepreneurship, doing business in Europe and geopolitics. You'll participate in cooking workshops, guided tours, company visits and even a cruise on the River Seine.

Total Cost and Payment Schedule
The total student cost for airfare, lodging, most local transportation, and trip organization is approximately $2,400.
The Wright Global Scholars fund will provide scholarships up to a maximum of $1,500 to eligible Merrick School of Business students. A Wright Global Business Scholarship Application is required.
In addition to travel costs, normal semester tuition and fees will apply for this three-credit (3cr) course.

Note:1 All payments are completely non-refundable. In addition to the travel costs, students are responsible for meals, incidental expenses and the tuition and fees associated with this three-credit hour course in the Spring 2024 semester.

Course Application, Registration and Next Steps
Students will be given permission to enroll in MGMT 498/798 for Spring. Registration for the Spring semester begins Nov. 3, 2023. Approved students will be given permission to enroll in this course and will receive registration instructions after the initial deposit is collected.
To obtain approval for this Field Study you must complete the Global Field Study Application Form. All approval and scholarship forms should be submitted to Kathea Smith, assistant dean (ksmith@ubalt.edu).- Complete the Wright Global Business Scholarship Application form.

- Acceptance based on evaluation of all of the above.
- If accepted, students register for MGMT 798 (or 498) for the Winter 2024 semester. Course Tuition Due: Monday, Dec. 18, 2023
