American entrepreneur, philanthropist and University of Baltimore alumnus Bob Parsons pledged a $1 million gift for the institute that bears his name to support an array of services designed to improve the lives of military members. The Bob Parsons Veterans Institute combines Parsons Veterans Center and Veterans Advocacy Clinic with related programs that provide valuable resources and much-needed services.
"Our veterans deserve our support," said Parsons, B.S. '75, D.H.L. '08. "But that means more than just financial assistance—this center is a way to say 'welcome home' to our service members."
Now in its fourth year, The Bob Parsons Veterans Center at the University of Baltimore works to help veterans with academic advising, assistance with financial aid, career counseling, peer support and more. Additionally, students enrolled in the UB School of Law can gain legal experience through The Bob Parsons Veterans Advocacy Clinic, where they represent veterans on a pro bono basis before courts and administrative agencies in real-world civil and veteran’s benefits matters.
"Education can be an important step in the transition veterans face as they reintegrate into civilian life, and Bob and I are pleased to continue our support for the great work being done at the University of Baltimore," said businesswoman and philanthropist, Renee Parsons.
Thanks largely to these and other initiatives funded by The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, UB has solidly established itself as a leader for its support of military and veteran students. For the third year in a row, the University was formally recognized as a Top 10 Military Friendly School by Victory Media.
"Because of Bob's generosity, the University of Baltimore can offer an abundance of vitally important services for veteran students and community members," said Kurt L. Schmoke, president of the University of Baltimore. "It's his commitment that allows us to deliver outstanding educational experiences for veterans and we are fortunate to have Bob and Renee Parsons as a part of the UB family."
The Bob Parsons Veterans Center has been busy forging new alliances and working on a variety of long-term initiatives in its new home in the UB Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. Learn more about The Bob Parsons Veterans Center.
