A new partnership agreement between The University of Baltimore and the Community College of Baltimore County will establish a dual-admission pathway for CCBC students, giving them dual-admission status at the University and providing access to UBalt academic advising, campus events and, beginning in 2024, transfer scholarships and awards. When it starts this fall, the two institutions' Degree to Succeed program is expected to attract dozens of students with joint-admission status, who will build their academic careers with a commitment to academic success, collegiate engagement and degree attainment.
"CCBC and UBalt are both devoted to student success, now more than ever before," says UBalt President Kurt L. Schmoke. "Both of our campuses attract students who want to focus on good grades, career-oriented majors and opportunities to strengthen their skills and explore their passions. With this new agreement, we're ensuring that the college-going experience is reflective of these students' commitment to higher education. It’s seamless, efficient, and puts them on the right track for a great outcome."
Among the advantages of the program is access to UBalt scholarships, including the lauded Bob Parsons Scholarship, which encourages the completion of a UBalt undergraduate degree. Other financial aid programs, including the Samuel G. Rose Scholarship and UBalt's Scholar Awards, also will be made available to Degree to Succeed students once they complete their CCBC degree and arrive at the University in 2024.
Other incentives include:
- Meetings with UBalt advisers, staff and faculty to complete pre-transfer advising, provide crucial enrollment information, and determine good alignment between CCBC academic programs and UBalt majors, certificates and more.
- Student transcript exchanges between the University and CCBC to make sure that all academic goals are on track and in order.
- Access to UBalt facilities, including the Bogomolny Library.
- Access to UBalt special events, including lectures, films, performances and more.
- A cohort approach to academic progress, meaning that CCBC students who sign up know who their fellow Degree to Succeed participants are and can encourage each other as they progress to their four-year degree.
- Access to information and incentives for continuing on to graduate school, depending on the student’s undergraduate program and their career plans.
"We are pleased to partner with The University of Baltimore to give CCBC students this opportunity to fast track their educational goals," says CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. "Upon graduation from CCBC, participating students will be halfway towards completing their bachelor's degree. Along the way, they will have access to both colleges' resources to help them succeed."
All participating students will agree to attain a CCBC Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree. Following the completion of that program, their dual-admission status will allow them to move on to register for any of UBalt's bachelor's degree programs with junior standing (60-70 credits). The transfer of other degree types will be determined through a seamless articulation agreement.
A signing ceremony for the Degree to Succeed agreement between CCBC and UBalt will be announced shortly, along with a number of live and virtual events for those who are interested in the program.
