Robert L. Bogomolny took on the role of president of the University of Baltimore on August 1, 2002. A Harvard College and Harvard Law School graduate, Bogomolny draws upon an exceptional background that spans the academic, legal and corporate worlds, making him ideally positioned to lead UB into the future.

Bogomolny came to UB from G.D. Searle & Company, where he served as corporate senior vice president and general counsel from 1987 to 2001. While at Searle, at various times, he directed the company's legal, regulatory, quality control and public affairs activities. Bogomolny also led Searle’s government affairs department in Washington, D.C., and served on the Searle Executive Management Committee.

Bogomolny previously served as professor of law and dean of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University from 1977 to 1987, and also as professor of law at Southern Methodist University School of Law for seven years.

Since his arrival at UB, Bogomolny has had a significant impact on the University and its community. Recognizing both the state’s growing college-ready population and UB’s capacity for more students, he led an extensive effort to welcome freshmen to the campus for the first time in decades. The program’s unique curriculum has inspired hundreds of first-year learners and further stimulated the University’s many students who are also working adults. At the same time, Bogomolny invested in the University’s physical infrastructure by remodeling the historic Liberal Arts and Policy Building as a state-of-the-art facility for teaching and research and by bringing on board experienced development partners to create the Fitzgerald at UB Midtown, a modern residential and retail complex on previously underutilized UB property. Other major improvements to the campus on Bogomolny’s watch include an ongoing streetscape program and dedicated signage to distinguish the UB footprint; the opening of the UB Student Center as a place for the community to meet, study and attend important events; and the establishment of new majors and specializations in human ecology, sustainability, digital simulation and entertainment, social enterprise and other in-demand areas.

Under his leadership, UB continues to grow and change as it meets the needs of students, employers and a society with an increasingly global outlook. He played an active role in the development of the University’s rebranding initiative, which ultimately resulted in a striking new UB logo, colors and tagline (Knowledge That Works). Now, he is involved in a historic effort to build a new center for the School of Law: a world-class, pathbreaking building at North Charles Street and Mount Royal Avenue that will serve as a showcase for green construction and urban density and as a model for how an institution can and should deliver legal education in the 21st century.

Outside of the University, Bogomolny is active in a diverse group of community organizations, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore and the Shriver Hall Concert Series.
