pronunciation guide

Robert L. Bogomolny took on the role of president of the University of Baltimore on August 1, 2002. A Harvard College and Harvard Law School graduate, Bogomolny draws upon an exceptional background that spans the academic, legal and corporate worlds, making him ideally positioned to lead UB into the future.

Bogomolny came to UB from G.D. Searle & Company, where he served as corporate senior vice president and general counsel from 1987 to 2001. While at Searle, at various times, he directed the company's legal, regulatory, quality control and public affairs activities. Bogomolny also led Searle’s government affairs department in Washington, D.C., and served on the Searle Executive Management Committee.

Bogomolny previously served as professor of law and dean of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University from 1977 to 1987, and also as professor of law at Southern Methodist University School of Law for seven years.

Since his arrival at UB, Bogomolny has had an unquestionable impact on the University and its community. He quickly supported the need for students to have a centralized meeting space and led the development and construction of the first-ever UB Student Center, which formally opened in April 2006. Recognizing the critical need for higher-education partnerships, he spearheaded the creation of a joint M.B.A. program offered by UB and Towson University; this program combines the strengths of both institutions in order to best serve students’ needs.

Under his leadership, UB responded to the state’s growing demand for undergraduate education by proposing an innovative lower-division program. Working with an accelerated timeframe, he supported the development of a cost-effective business model and unique curriculum focused on expanding UB’s professional education to first-year students. As a result, UB will once again admit freshman and sophomore students in fall 2007. Most recently, Bogomolny played an active role in the development of the University of Baltimore’s re-branding initiative—which ultimately resulted in a striking new UB logo, colors and tagline ("Knowledge That Works").

Outside of the University, Bogomolny is active in a diverse group of community organizations, including: the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; the Kennedy Krieger Institute; THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore; and the Shriver Hall Concert Series.
